Detailed walkthrough
- Go to Novac between 9 PM and 9 AM. Find the giant dinosaur and enter it. Once inside, caput up the stairs and go through the door at the superlative. The Courier should meet a man named Boone. Talk to him almost his married woman and the Courier volition receive the quest to find out who sold his wife off to slavers so he may kill them. He too gives the Courier his beret to wear every bit a point to fire on the person the Courier brings in front of the Dino.
- The Courier is then given the chore to talk to select inhabitants of Novac. Luckily, the Courier only needs to talk to one of them in guild to progress in the quest. This person is No-bark Noonan, an older man that seems a footling out of his mind. No-bark'south shack can be constitute behind the motel. Talk to Noonan about Boone's married woman and he will tell the Courier about strange business in the cabin lobby. With a sufficient plenty Speech level, the Courier can cease the quest without prove. Just talk to Boone after talking to No-bark Noonan.
- Head to the Dino Dee-lite forepart desk and cheque backside the counter to discover a safe on the floor. This safe is locked and will require the Courier to either choice it (Piece of cake skill) or pickpocket the key from Jeannie (there is no loss of Karma). Within the safe, the Courier volition find a note titled bill of auction. This document tells of how Jeannie May Crawford sold Boone'southward wife off to Legion slavers.
- Now that the evidence has been obtained, look until Boone is at the sniping spot (betwixt 10 PM and ix AM) to face up Jeannie and ask her to take a stroll with the Courier in front of the dinosaur. In one case in forepart of the dinosaur, put on the beret and Boone volition kill Jeannie (remember that Boone has to be in the T-Rex before the dialogue selection that allows the Courier to lure Jeannie May to go shot appears).
- Head up to Boone. He will ask the Courier how they knew it was her. The Courier can tell him about the bill of sale they constitute. If the Courier did not get the evidence, it is possible to laissez passer a Speech check (55 Speech required). If that fails, Boone may try to kill the Courier or become angry, snatch his beret back, and say that he doesn't e'er desire to come across the Courier once again, eliminating the selection of him being a companion. If the Courier tells him about the prove, the Courier tin can keep talking to him and convince him to become their companion.
Alternative walkthroughs
- Instead of having Boone shoot the culprit Jeannie May Crawford, the Courier have the option to frame one of several Novac townsfolk including Alice or Dusty McBride, Cliff Briscoe, Manny Vargas, Ranger Andy, or No-bark Noonan. Be cautious, considering these characters may be needed for completing other quests. This will lead to a Karma loss, and Boone volition not be available as a companion after finishing the quest.
- To complete this quest without loss of Karma, accept Jeannie May shot past Boone, loot the safety key from her corpse, and call back the bill of sale. Take the detail directly to Boone and the quest will be completed without ever having to talk to anyone else.
Quest stages
Phase | Condition | Clarification |
---|---|---|
10 | (Optional) Ask effectually Novac for data about who kidnapped Boone's wife. | |
20 | (Optional) Look for evidence of the guilty party within the Dino Dee-lite lobby. | |
30 | Ship someone in front end of Dinky the Dinosaur. Put on the beret to bespeak to Boone that this is the culprit. | |
40 | Render to Boone. |
Notes
- Boone will turn down to talk with the Courier if either their human relationship with the NCR is beneath neutral or if their reputation with the Legion is higher than with the NCR. In both cases, wearing a NCR armor will make it possible to talk with him over again.
- If the Courier uses Boone's beret to repair whatsoever other beret earlier having him kill Jeannie May Crawford or anyone else, the quest is unfinishable.
- If the Courier accidentally gives Boone their Recon beret, information technology will disappear and he won't like information technology if they take his (it is just invisible in the inventory, one can have him and he'll nevertheless have one). This is considering the Recon berets are stackable, so fifty-fifty though the Courier have more than one, it will still show that they only have one.
- If the Courier asks the incorrect person to go and stand up in forepart of the dinosaur, but let that person walk over, merely do not equip the beret. Boone will not shoot. At this point, whoever the Courier sent over volition walk dorsum, and they tin can go and enquire someone else to go and stand up there.
- After Jeannie May Crawford is killed, talk to Cliff Briscoe. "I recall it'southward fourth dimension nosotros requite something dorsum to you" will appear in his dialogue box, but actually he says, "I recall it'due south time we requite everything back to you" invoice.
- This dialogue will only happen if the Courier has an Accepted reputation in Novac.
- If the Courier choses Jeannie May equally Boone's target, the adjacent fourth dimension they speak to Cliff Briscoe, he volition inform them that he is the new proprietor of the motel and gives you the key. The Courier will accept the option to say "I killed Jeannie May. Do I even so get my discount?", although Boone was her killer. Should the Courier cull this pick, they volition exist asked why, and each possible respond produces slightly dissimilar reactions, but he will not turn hostile, nor will the Courier'due south reputation with Novac be damaged in whatever fashion. Indeed, given the nature of the situation, he seems rather untroubled, presenting the player with the usual dialogue choices.
- Later on asking around well-nigh Boone's married woman, information technology is adequately logical to assume that Crawford sold her then Boone would stay in town, as she is repeatedly mentioned to desire to exit Novac and go back to New Vegas. Yet, information technology is hinted through dialogue with Jeannie May Crawford that her motives were more personal. One time acquiring the evidence, speak to Jeannie May and select "Where'south the quickest way out of this dump?" Jeannie will launch into a tirade about 'choosy types' who criticize her boondocks, indicating that the reason she sold Boone's wife was that she made some like comments. This is also evidenced by various Novac non-histrion characters who testify to Carla'south callous attitude.
- After completing the quest with the prove against Crawford, the Courier tin can steal from the Dino Dee-light Front desk office and Jeannie May'southward business firm with no loss of Karma.
- Afterwards dandy the safety, take the 'Bill of Sale' note merely; stealing the other items may event in some Novac infamy. The Courier tin take everything afterward completing this quest, however.
- Keeping Boone's 1st Recon beret on after he shoots Crawford will let it to remain in the Courier'south inventory, and if worn will occasionally exist commented on by non-histrion characters.
- If the Courier choses to kill Crawford by themselves, the quest cannot exist proceeded. The reason for this becomes clear when request Boone, "What practise I exercise if I observe this person?" He responds by saying, in part, "...And I'll have intendance of the rest. I demand to exercise this myself." revealing that Boone needs to exact revenge.
- If Boone shoots Jeannie May, Novac settlers will comment about it when spoken to.
Behind the scenes
The quest's name is a reference to the famous torch song "Ane For My Baby (and One More For the Route)" by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. Information technology was popularized by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Billie Holiday, and more recently, Hugh Laurie.
Bugs
- PC On rare occasions, non-player characters (including Jeannie'southward) AI walking script will finish working. As a workaround, the player must button the non-player graphic symbol to the location to complete the quest. - PC Playstation 3 Xbox 360 Subsequently completing the quest Boone's beret might remain in your inventory. [verified]
- PC Xbox 360 If the Courier tells Jeannie (or whatsoever other person) to get stand in front of the dinosaur and he/she doesn't have Boone's hat on, Jeannie won't get shot and the option to take her to the front end of the Dino will disappear forever. [verified]

- PC Playstation 3 Merely after completing this quest, when you leave Boone up in the mouth, you may come out to observe Boone re-entering the gift store and going up to the rima oris every bit if starting his shift. [verified]
